If you would rather have someone check it for you, see local SEO in Surrey. Otherwise, work through the steps below in order.
Is your profile really missing, or are you searching the wrong way?
Test three ways before you change anything:
- Search your business name and city, for example “Your Business Name Surrey”.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the profile and search “my business”. Google describes this in Find your business on Google.
- Open a private window and search your service and city, for example “plumber Surrey”.
Results differ by where the searcher is and by which account they are signed in to, so a result you see at your desk may not match what a customer across town sees. If the profile appears for your name but not your service, skip ahead to that section.
What are the 7 checks when a profile is not showing?
Go down the table in order. The earlier rows are the quickest to confirm.
| Check | What you’ll see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Not verified | No “Verified” status in the profile manager | Finish verification. Google says only verified businesses show information on Maps and Search. If a former provider set the profile up, you may need access to your Google and website accounts back first. |
| 2. Suspended or disabled | A notice in the Google account that manages the profile | Read Google's guidelines, fix the cause named, then request reinstatement through Google's process. Never create a new profile to get around it. |
| 3. Edit under review | A recent change you made is not visible yet | Wait. Google says changes can take up to three days to appear. |
| 4. New profile | You verified recently and do not show yet | Be patient. Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month. |
| 5. Address or service-area setup | A street address shown for a home business, or a PO box or virtual office used as the address | Service-area businesses hide the address and list the areas they serve (Google's representation guidelines). |
| 6. Duplicate or inconsistent listings | Two profiles for one business, or a directory showing an old phone number or address | Keep one profile. Make your name, phone and website match everywhere they appear. |
| 7. Not relevant or prominent enough | You show for your business name but not for your service | Choose the right primary category, add your services and a description in your own words, earn real reviews, and have a website page that matches the service. |
Timeframes and rules come from Google’s own help pages, linked under Sources.
Get a free website reviewYou show up for your name but not for your service. What now?
That is normal for a newer or less established profile, and it is a different problem from a missing one. Google says local results are based mainly on three things: relevance (how well a profile matches what someone searches for), distance (how far the profile is from the searcher or the place named in the search) and prominence (how well known the business is). Read Google’s How to improve your local ranking for the exact wording.
- Relevance: pick the most accurate primary category, list the services you actually offer and describe them plainly.
- Distance: you cannot change where searchers are, so do not move your listed address to chase it.
- Prominence: real customer reviews and consistent business details help.
Google is clear that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, and no honest provider can promise one.
Do you need a website for your profile to show?
No. A profile can appear without one. A website page that matches the service you offer does help the profile make sense to Google and to customers. If you do not have a site, or yours is old and slow, Luminary has a free website offer: up to 5 pages, you pay only for your domain, and spots are limited each month. You can also ask for a free website review first. If your old site is a slow WordPress build, our guide on why a WordPress site is slow is a good starting point.
When should you get help?
Get help if the notice in your account is unclear, the profile is suspended, or you have worked through the checks and still cannot tell what is wrong. Inside the Local Growth Plan, Luminary checks and fixes your Google Business Profile, keeps your business details consistent and builds service pages. We do not guarantee rankings. The Local Growth Plan is CAD 250/month before tax. The first three months are CAD 750, then it is month to month.

How long does a new Google Business Profile take to show up?
Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month, and edits to an existing profile can take up to three days to appear. If your profile is verified and still missing after those windows, work through the checks in this guide, starting with whether it is missing for your name or only for your service.
Can my business show on Google Maps without a public address?
Yes. Under Google's guidelines, a service-area business can hide its address and list the areas it serves instead. That suits many owner-run trades and home-based businesses. A street address should only be shown if customers can actually visit you there; a PO box or virtual office does not qualify.
Can I pay Google to rank higher in Maps?
No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Google Ads is a separate, paid product and this guide is about the free business profile. Nobody can honestly promise you a Maps position.
Why did my profile disappear after I edited it?
Usually one of two things: the edit is still under review, which Google says can take up to three days to appear, or the profile has been suspended. Sign in to the Google account that manages the profile and look for a notice or a status message. A notice will say what to fix.
Should I create a new profile if mine is suspended?
No. Fix the cause named in the notice and follow Google's reinstatement process. A second profile for the same business creates a duplicate, which can make the problem worse and may be treated as an attempt to get around the suspension.
